The RoboRun autonomous driving fleet has recently received approval from the Hong Kong Transport Department, successfully expanding its testing range, marking a significant milestone. According to the latest official data, RoboRun has surpassed 14,000 kilometers of operation in Hong Kong, with a total global safe driving distance of over 170 million kilometers, showcasing the maturity of its technology and indicating that autonomous driving technology is moving towards large-scale commercial applications.<\/p>\n

Since December 2024, Rabbit Run has been conducting tests in Hong Kong, primarily on the roads of Lantau Island. The Transport Department announced recently that the company has been granted approval to renew the trial license under Road Traffic (Autonomous Vehicles) Regulations and is now allowed to expand the testing scope. The number of test vehicles has increased from the original five to ten, which will help the system gather local real-world driving data more rapidly and assess the operational efficiency of multiple vehicles during peak hours.<\/p>\n

The Director of the Transport Department, Li Chung-yin, has also experienced a self-driving vehicle from Lo Bak Kwan Pao, expressing that Hong Kong will orderly advance the development of this technology. This will allow citizens to gradually experience the innovative travel methods brought by autonomous driving. During the testing phase in Hong Kong, Lo Bak Kwan Pao’s driving performance in both urban and suburban areas was quite stable, having achieved Level 4 autonomy. This means the system can fully handle driving operations under certain conditions and automatically initiate the safest response strategies in emergency situations.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson for Luobo Kuai Pao mentioned that Hong Kong, being the company’s first test market for right-hand drive and left-side traffic, presents the team with several new challenges; however, the test results have been encouraging. According to internal company data, its vehicles have an accident rate of just 1\/14 that of human drivers, translating to a safety improvement of over ten times. So far, the platform has completed more than 10 million autonomous driving trips, with a total safe driving distance worldwide surpassing 170 million kilometers.<\/p>\n

Aside from Hong Kong, LUOBEIKUAI PAO plans to enter the Middle Eastern market in March 2025, initially launching in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. They have already deployed over 1,000 driverless vehicles for scalable operations in downtown Dubai. Collaborating with local partners, LUOBEIKUAI PAO aims to establish the largest local fleet of driverless vehicles in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n
