The latest announcement from the Transport Department highlights that the government will soon issue official licenses to five taxi fleets, with nearly 1,000 taxis expected to be in service by the end of the month. Transport Department Director Li Chongyan revealed during a media briefing that these fleets have completed about 60% of their hardware preparations and are collaborating with Octopus Card Company to create a unified booking platform to facilitate reservations for the public.<\/p>\n

Li Shun’en stated that after obtaining Conditional provisional notice, five fleets have been actively preparing for various tasks. Over the past two months, these fleets have organized multiple briefing sessions and recruitment events, and have attracted new drivers through job fairs hosted by the Labour Department, while also showcasing new vehicle models to encourage franchising. She pointed out that most of the fleets have reached 60% progress in acquiring vehicles and installing necessary facilities, and the next step is to enhance driver recruitment.<\/p>\n

According to the Transport Department’s regulations, the fleet must reach 60% of the promised scale before officially commencing operations, and at least 2,100 vehicles must be provided for service. Li Chong-en emphasized that the government has not relaxed standards regarding fleet management, hardware infrastructure, and driver training, but will pragmatically review the recruitment situation for drivers.<\/p>\n

Once the fleet obtains its official license, it will be able to use around 80 dedicated parking spaces under the fleet’s name. These spaces will be located at the airport, border crossings, and other popular tourist spots, specifically designated for picking up passengers with reservations. The Transport Department plans to set up signage and information boards, and distribute relevant materials to help residents easily make reservations.<\/p>\n

Regarding the establishment of a ride-hailing platform, Li Song’en pointed out that Octopus Holdings is in talks with five fleets to create a unified ride-hailing platform, hoping to reach an agreement soon.<\/p>\n

To enhance efficiency, the Transport Department maintains close communication with various fleets, streamlining the vehicle inspection process and introducing bulk application procedures, making it easier for operators to acquire new vehicles. Moreover, since the trial operation phase began, all five taxi fleets have provided nearly 120,000 taxi services, with passenger feedback being extremely positive.<\/p>\n
