Renowned director Christopher Nolan recently released the first teaser for the adaptation of Homer’s epic The Odyssey, which has been exclusively screened in North American cinemas. The release situation in Hong Kong and Taiwan has yet to be confirmed. This teaser premiered on the same day as the movie Jurassic World: Rebirth, lasting about 70 seconds and showcasing Nolan’s signature promotional style, kicking off the hype for the new film more than a year in advance.
The trailer opens with Matt Damon portraying Odysseus, Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, and Jon Bernthal in a mysterious role. Following that, a voice-over that seems to be Robert Pattinson narrates how the master and the king face a challenge of Impossible War. The preview hints at crucial plot details, including the Trojan Horse, and showcases a conversation between Telemachus and Jon Bernthal’s character, discussing Odysseus’s disappearance and his Legendary Stories, speculating that the king of Ithaca may have encountered disaster or been captured. It ultimately reveals him stranded in the vast ocean, relying on just a few pieces of driftwood to survive. The trailer concludes with the film’s title and the anticipated release date 17. 07. 26.
Although the trailer has already slipped onto social media platforms like X and TikTok, it was quickly taken down due to copyright issues. The film boasts an impressive cast, featuring not only Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Jon Bernthal, but also Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, and Cosmo Jarvis among other notable stars.
The Odyssey is adapted from an ancient Greek epic, telling the story of Odysseus’s arduous journey home over ten long years. Along the way, he faces a series of challenges including sirens, a cyclops, and witches. It’s set to officially premiere on July 17, 2026.
