The new energy SUV market is undergoing a significant reshuffle, but there are still few models that truly offer all-terrain capabilities along with a luxury touch. Recently, DENZA opened its second exclusive showroom in Wan Chai at the 合和商場, showcasing for the first time its brand new plug-in hybrid SUV—the B5. This model clearly targets the technical specifications and positioning of several mid-to-large European SUVs currently in the market, such as the BMW X5 xDrive50e, Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 e, and Audi Q7 TFSI e.

From the specifications, it’s clear that the B5 isn’t just about impressive range; it’s a comprehensive driving solution designed for diverse driving conditions. With a water wading depth of up to 790mm and a climbing ability of 45 degrees, paired with the Yunlian-P intelligent hydraulic suspension system, it can real-time adjust the vehicle’s height and damping based on terrain, enhancing both passability and stability. Such features have traditionally been found in off-road icons like the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, making them quite rare in the plug-in hybrid SUV segment.

In terms of its power system, the B5 employs DENZA’s DMO hybrid platform, supporting both pure electric and hybrid driving modes, with an impressive NEDC combined range of up to 1,000 kilometers. This makes it ideally suited for long-distance city-to-city driving and outdoor activities, clearly exceeding the typical positioning of urban new energy SUVs. When compared to the BMW X5 PHEV’s approximately 90 kilometers of electric range (WLTP standard) and the Audi Q7 TFSI e’s sub-80 kilometer performance, the B5 showcases superior overall range flexibility.

As for the cabin features, they meet German standards, outfitted with NAPPA leather seats that provide electric adjustment, ventilation, and massage functions. Additionally, it includes a climate-controlled storage box, a panoramic glass roof, and multi-color ambient lighting. The sound system boasts a French Devialet system with 16 speakers, specifically tuned for the cabin space to further enhance the entertainment experience.

In the local market, this type of plug-in hybrid SUV faces two main challenges: first, the charging infrastructure is still underdeveloped; second, luxury brands dominate consumer mindsets. With its hybrid structure and practical performance capabilities, the B5 has the potential to fill the functional gap that BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi currently cannot reach. If DENZA can keep the B5’s price under 800,000 HKD, it will become a strong contender in the mid-to-large new energy SUV market.

Currently, B5 is still in the preview stage, running from now until November 2, 2025, with an official launch expected to take place within November. The new showroom is located at Shop 1801, 18th Floor, Hopewell Centre, 15 Kennedy Road, Wan Chai, covering over 7,000 square feet. The display space is clearly divided, and in addition to B5, other DENZA models will gradually be showcased, reflecting the brand’s expansion strategy that is now fully underway.
