An innovative underground parking project named EUP Vertical Smart Parking Garage is set to launch in the Jing'an-Daning area of Shanghai. This 17-story garage will soon begin its pre-registration phase. The design of this parking facility is not only unique but also makes it one of the largest smart parking garages in the world, offering up to 304 automated parking spaces, expected to effectively address the parking challenges faced by local residents.
This underground car park is nestled beneath the city greens, plunging down to a staggering depth of 50.5 meters, equivalent to 17 stories high. It features up to 19 levels of parking spaces, cleverly arranged within two vertical shafts. What stands out even more is that the garage boasts 76 charging stations for electric vehicles, which accounts for about 25% of the total parking spaces. It accommodates a diverse range of vehicle types including sedans, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, all capable of supporting a maximum weight of 2.8 tons. The dimensions for these vehicles are 5.3 meters in length, 1.9 meters in width, and 1.9 meters in height. Remarkably, this entire project occupies just 286 square meters of surface area while offering a capacity that is ten times greater than that of a traditional parking lot.
This project features a PCS-type vertical lifting mechanical parking system, integrating pallet transportation and AGV automated handling technology, allowing for a vehicle access time of approximately 90 seconds. Luo Zhiming, the head of China Railway 15th Bureau Shanghai Intelligent Transportation Technology Company, highlighted that this design enables vehicles to be layered like in underground residential buildings. The ground is equipped with eight independent entrances and exits, each supported by lifting equipment and AGV robotic handling machines.
Car owners can use the Tiejian Zhi Parking app or widget to reserve parking spots, and the system will guide the AGV robot to transport the vehicle to the designated parking space, eliminating the need for the driver to reverse or turn around. Once the owner parks the car in the designated area, the AGV will automatically move it to the entrance, where a conveyor belt will transport it to an underground parking space. This entire process is highly efficient and automated, and drivers can also manually complete parking using on-screen buttons.
In addition, engineer Yao Shikun stated that the system also supports remote car booking functionality. Car owners only need to set the pickup time within a distance of 300 meters from the garage, and the AGV robot will deliver the vehicle to the designated pickup spot on time, thus improving turnover rates and operational efficiency.
EUP Vertical Smart Parking Garage has not only transformed the parking experience but has also utilized the development of public green spaces and underground parking to enhance urban land efficiency. This project has incorporated China's independently developed ultra-large diameter vertical excavation equipment Dream Chaser into civilian construction. This machine stands at 10 meters tall, weighs 650 tons, boasts a power of 1800 kilowatts, and has an excavation diameter of 23.02 meters, filling a gap in the development of this technology.
