The all-new Mercedes-Benz S 450 4MATIC Signature Edition has officially launched in Hong Kong, injecting fresh energy into the W223 generation of the S-Class luxury sedan series. The standout feature of the Signature Edition is that it includes several high-end features that were previously available as optional extras into the standard equipment package. This includes a rear-wheel steering system, heated and cooling rear seats, and an MBUX rear tablet. It offers a more comprehensive range of options for buyers who prioritize practicality and value for money, particularly appealing to those who prefer being chauffeured or who value the rear-seat experience.

The Signature Edition measures 5,289mm in length, 2,109mm in width, and 1,503mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,216mm. Although it is a long-wheelbase model, the standard rear-wheel steering system offers a maximum steering angle of 10 degrees, which can reduce the turning circle by up to 2 meters—making maneuvering in tight city parking spaces or during U-turns significantly more agile. This system, combined with AIRMATIC air suspension and a relatively high direct steering ratio, allows the lengthy chassis to respond like a mid-sized sedan, enhancing stability in fast corners and improving handling on narrow roads.

In terms of power, the S 450 Signature Edition is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine, designated M256, delivering a maximum output of 381 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Coupled with the 48V EQ Boost mild hybrid system, it adds an extra 22 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. Matched with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h, while achieving a combined fuel consumption of 8.1 to 9.3 L/100 km according to WLTP standards, offering both performance and efficiency.

The Signature Edition has also put significant effort into aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.22, making it one of the best performers among mass-produced sedans worldwide. In terms of driving and passenger space, compared to the previous generation, the driver’s knee space has been increased by 38 mm, rear passenger knee space has grown by 23 mm, headroom has expanded by 16 mm, and the trunk capacity has also risen by 20 liters, increasing to 550 liters, making it much more practical for daily and long-distance use.
The interior features a 12.8-inch vertically oriented OLED central display, which has increased in size by 64% compared to the previous generation, boasting a diagonal measurement of 12.8 inches. It integrates with the second-generation MBUX multimedia system, supporting natural voice control Hello, Mercedes. and fingerprint recognition for login. The driver’s dashboard is 12.3 inches and can be equipped with an AR-HUD virtual reality heads-up display, projecting an image equivalent to a 77-inch screen, ensuring that driving information is clear and easy to read.

The rear seats showcase another highlight of the Signature Edition. The temperature-controlled seats are upholstered in Lugano and Nappa leather, featuring a three-dimensional tubular pattern and progressive diamond stitching design, elevating both visual appeal and tactile experience. Buyers can also opt for the Active Multicontour air pressure seats, equipped with 19 motors (including 8 for adjustments, 5 for ventilation, 4 for massage, 1 for lumbar support, and 1 for screen adjustment). This system combines 10 different massage programs with the principles of hot stone therapy, and the airbags are positioned closer to the surface for more immediate relaxation.

The Signature Edition comes equipped with a detachable 7-inch MBUX rear tablet, four-zone climate control, wireless charging both front and back, and electric side curtains, creating an independent and private atmosphere akin to first-class cabins. For an elevated audio experience, it can be upgraded to the Burmester® high-end 4D surround sound system, featuring 31 speakers and 8 resonance modules, which use seat vibration technology to deliver an immersive sound experience while providing a sound massage effect.

The Signature Edition showcases a thoughtful approach to environmental consciousness and sustainable design, utilizing over 98 kilograms of renewable or recyclable component materials—doubling the amount from the previous generation—with approximately 40 kilograms sourced from natural materials. The MBUX system boasts a 50% performance boost over its predecessor, with memory bandwidth reaching 41,790MB/s, enabling seamless interactions across multiple devices and an overall upgrade in technological sophistication.
The safety features include a driver assistance system, front and rear airbags, a center airbag, and rear side airbags (with an expansion volume of up to 70 liters). Combined with active braking, lane-keeping, and blind spot detection, these elements offer comprehensive protection.

Overall, the S 450 4MATIC Signature Edition brings a suite of flagship features as standard, streamlining the selection process while enhancing practicality and luxury. For buyers seeking a vehicle that combines high-end configurations with a commitment to driving comfort and brand image, this model undoubtedly stands out as an enticing new option within the S-Class lineup.
The intention price for the S 450 4MATIC Signature Edition starts at HK$1,580,000 and it is now available on the market in Hong Kong.
