The development of this race car is entirely rooted in the Porsche Motorsport Weissach Development Center, and it has undergone extensive testing at Monza, Lausitzring, and Porsche's own test circuit. Experienced drivers Bastian Buus and Klaus Bachler provided crucial feedback, ensuring that the chassis and powertrain remain true to the essence of naturally aspirated engines, while further enhancing precision and balance.
At its core, the vehicle boasts Porsche's iconic high-revving 4.0-liter flat-six engine, now delivering around 503 horsepower. Paired with a sequential transmission and a redesigned drivetrain, it allows for faster gear shifts and improved durability. Furthermore, the car's aerodynamics have undergone comprehensive enhancements, featuring wider cooling intakes at the front, integrated engine cover vents, and optimized front splitters to boost grip on the front axle. Meanwhile, the widened rear track and optimized airflow under the chassis create a more balanced overall downforce distribution.
The cockpit has also undergone meticulous improvements, with a redesigned steering wheel, upgraded digital dashboard, and optimized pedal layout—all based on feedback from professional drivers—ensuring an intuitive and focused driving experience. The ergonomic adjustments of the seats and subtle enhancements in visibility boost the driver’s comfort and situational awareness during high-intensity races.
The most significant update lies in the transformation of the engine’s internals. This race car is the first to be fully developed using Porsche’s eFuel hybrid fuel, a high-performance synthetic fuel that complies with FIA’s advanced sustainability regulations. Composed of 79.7% renewable components, it reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 66% over its lifecycle compared to fossil fuels, without compromising power or responsiveness. This innovation not only aligns with Porsche's broader sustainability roadmap but also closely meets the demands of real-world racing.
The 992.2 GT3 Cup will be produced at Porsche's main factory in Zuffenhausen, with production expected to commence soon and officially enter competitions in the following season. It will be a standout model in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and select Carrera Cup championships worldwide.
