In the recent MotoGP season, the contract issues between Jorge Martin and Aprilia have caught widespread attention. Although Martin had previously expressed his desire to end his contract with Aprilia, it seems the situation has shifted over time. The 2024 World Champion faced severe injuries once again after returning to the track at the Qatar GP, forcing him to take a break during the season.
Subsequently, Martin’s manager, Albert Valera, actively engaged in discussions with Aprilia to terminate the contract early and even reached out to other manufacturers, raising concerns about his future. In a social media statement in May, Martin expressed his intention to part ways with Aprilia, but the team was not willing to concede easily. Team director Massimo Rivola emphasized the legality of the contract and stated that they would not rule out using legal measures to defend their rights. MotoGP’s CEO, Carmelo Ezpeleta, also voiced his support, pointing out that Martin would not gain his freedom until 2026.
However, the situation changed in July when Martin showed a notably proactive attitude during the injury regulations test in Misano. He actively engaged with the technical team, and there’s buzz about his potential return at the Czech GP event. Spanish media reports suggest that Martin appears to have had a change of heart, likely due to the lengthy legal battle and its profound implications for his future.
In response, Aprilia’s Rivola simply stated that the decisions regarding Martin’s future have not changed. Although this incident was initially sparked by Martin’s agent, Martin must also take part of the responsibility for failing to prevent these actions from happening. This situation is still evolving, and the dynamics among all parties during the MotoGP season are definitely worth keeping an eye on.
