Subaru is set to make a grand debut of its first Forester Hybrid, specifically designed for the American market, at the 2025 Chicago Auto Show. This SUV features an all-new next-gen parallel hybrid powertrain, retaining the brand's signature symmetrical all-wheel drive technology, and enhances fuel efficiency by up to 40%, achieving a total range of 581 miles (approximately 935 kilometers). This further highlights the versatile SUV positioning of the Forester Hybrid!
The all-new hybrid system strikes the perfect balance between performance and fuel efficiency. The Forester Hybrid features the 2.5L Atkinson/Miller-cycle SUBARU BOXER horizontally opposed engine for the first time, paired with dual electric motors and the Lineartronic CVT transmission, delivering a combined output of 194hp. Fuel economy is also impressive, with EPA estimates of 35 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, maintaining a combined efficiency of 35 mpg.
This car is equipped with a high-capacity lithium battery, optimizing energy recovery and electric driving modes. It features an EV pure electric mode, allowing it to operate solely on the electric motor at low speeds, further enhancing its eco-friendly performance.
When it comes to off-road capability, the Forester Hybrid remains uncompromising. It continues to feature Subaru's unique Symmetrical AWD system, equipped with X-MODE® dual-mode all-wheel-drive system and an impressive 8.7 inches of ground clearance, ensuring fearless navigation through rugged terrain. The active torque distribution system and vehicle dynamics control technology further enhance handling stability and confidence in tackling any terrain.
On the safety front, the 2025 Forester Hybrid comes standard with the advanced EyeSight driver assistance system. Featuring a wider-angle camera and enhanced AI analysis, it offers a range of safety functions, including a collision prevention braking system and emergency parking assist, ensuring drivers' safety on the road.
In terms of interior, the Forester Hybrid introduces modern technology with a 12.3-inch full digital instrument panel and an 11.6-inch central touchscreen, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring drivers enjoy a great tech experience.
Additionally, some higher-end models will offer animal-friendly StarTex high-durability interiors, as well as an exclusive new color, Daybreak Blue Pearl, giving owners more personalized options to choose from.
The Forester Hybrid is expected to hit the market in spring, starting at $34,995. This vehicle is not only Subaru's first hybrid SUV in the U.S. market, but it also showcases the brand's commitment to transitioning to renewable energy. For those who embark on long drives or love outdoor activities, the impressive range of 581 miles is undoubtedly a major selling point. Coupled with AWD and a high ground clearance, this SUV is well-equipped for off-road adventures. While it will take time to validate the maturity of its hybrid system in the market, there’s no doubt that the Forester Hybrid is a must-see choice for 2025!
