This morning, on December 5th, at 11 AM Japan time (10 AM Hong Kong time), Toyota made waves in Tokyo by unveiling three stunning sports cars. Yes, you heard me correctly—these are genuine sports machines, featuring two street models and one race-ready beast; two run on gasoline while the other is electric. Joining the lineup is the crown jewel from GR (Gazoo Racing) – the GR GT, along with the GR GT3 race car debuting from GR GT Modifications, and rounding it out is the jaw-dropping Lexus LFA Concept.

GR GT

The GR GT stands as the pinnacle of Gazoo Racing’s (GR) commitment to excellence. Developed by a talented team featuring Toyota’s top drivers Tatsuya Katoh, Hiroaki Ishibashi, and Naoya Kamata, along with the motorsport-enthusiast Akio Toyoda and his son Daisuke, this vehicle radiates their passion for racing. Its design philosophy aims to craft a race-ready car that’s street legal, emphasizing a low center of gravity, lightweight structure, and outstanding performance as the key elements of its creation.

To hit that sweet spot of low center of gravity, they’ve kept the ride height real compact. We’re talking about an FR setup here, with the engine up front and the drive happening at the rear. The fresh 8-speed transmission is cleverly nestled above the rear axle, making sure power is split evenly with 45% up front and 55% in the rear. On top of that, the driveshaft’s made from carbon fiber, cranking up that center of gravity optimization even more. Just peep the image below: the driver’s seat is perfectly aligned with the engine and everything else, nailing that essential connection between driver and machine. When it comes to the powertrain, it’s rocking a brand new 4-liter V8 twin-turbo hybrid layout that churns out over 650 horsepower and 850Nm of torque, powering this beast to a mind-blowing top speed of over 320 km/h.

Toyota is making waves with its focus on weight control. For the first time, the entire chassis is crafted from aluminum, and several parts of the body, including the roof, hood, inner door panels, and rear end, feature carbon fiber elements. This cutting-edge approach guarantees that the vehicle is lightweight yet robust, keeping the GR GT’s weight below 1.8 tons—just 1,750 kg!

GR GT3

The GR GT3 racing car, crafted from the GR GT specifications Modification, is said to cater to both pro and amateur drivers. It packs the same mechanical specs as the GR GT, boasting a powerful 4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine and a sleek rear-wheel-drive setup. Anticipation surrounds its official launch, expected to hit the scene in 2027, much like its GR GT counterpart.

Lexus LFA Concept
Regarding the Lexus LFA Concept, this is the Sport Concept Rebranding edition that made waves at the Monterey Car Week. It’s anticipated that the final production model will carry the LFA name. This time, Lexus has made it clear that the vehicle is an electric sports car, dispelling earlier buzz that it was going to feature a gasoline engine—many assumed the long hood was a sign that it had to be petrol-powered, but the ultimate confirmation is that it’s electric. The LFA concept boasts a meticulously polished exterior design, although details about its electric specs are still under wraps. As we get closer to production, it’s expected that more information will come to light. When exactly will production kick off? Unfortunately, the company hasn’t released any details yet, leaving us hoping it’s not merely a distant fantasy.
