Polyphony Digital has announced a collaboration with Xiaomi, bringing the latest smart electric vehicle, the SU7 Ultra, into the classic racing game Gran Turismo 7. This marks the first time a vehicle made in China is featured in gaming history and showcases the new strength of the Chinese automotive industry. Kazunori Yamauchi, who has been creating the Gran Turismo series for over 25 years, expressed immense respect for the Xiaomi team's technology after personally test driving the SU7 Ultra. He revealed that both parties will be working together to develop a Vision Gran Turismo concept car, aiming to further enhance the visibility of Chinese automotive brands on the global sim racing stage.
Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun also emphasized that Gran Turismo holds a stellar reputation in the racing simulation world, capturing the attention of car enthusiasts everywhere. He stated that allowing the SU7 Ultra to be featured on this platform is a significant affirmation of Xiaomi's automotive prowess.
Back in May, Yamauchi Kazunori personally visited Beijing to engage in deep discussions with Lei Jun and the Xiaomi management team. During this time, he also toured Xiaomi's super factory located in Yizhuang, Beijing, where he had a hands-on experience driving the SU7 Ultra on the track. He noted that Xiaomi is continuously expanding its smart ecosystem, from smartphones and home appliances to wearable devices, and the launch of the SU7 series cars demonstrates a new breakthrough in manufacturing for the company. The SU7 Ultra has even set a lap record at the Nürburgring, showcasing its exceptional performance.
Yasuyuki Yamauchi expressed that he was deeply impressed by the courage, curiosity, and passion of the Xiaomi automotive team, believing that these traits perfectly align with the ultimate spirit pursued by Gran Turismo. He praised the SU7 Ultra for its impressive technological performance in the global smart electric vehicle market, noting that this car has the ability to challenge itself on the Nürburgring track, showcasing Xiaomi's strong capability in the luxury performance car sector.
At the event, Ren Zhoucan, the head of dynamic performance development for Xiaomi Cars, pointed out that the team will use the Nürburgring as their R&D base to continually refine driving performance and push the limits of electric performance vehicles. He emphasized that they will closely collaborate with Gran Turismo’s development team to accurately recreate the handling and driving experience of the SU7 Ultra in the game.
Polyphony Digital plans to collaborate with Xiaomi on the development of the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo concept car, deepening their technological and creative partnership. Lei Jun also stated that both sides share a strong philosophical alignment, aiming to improve human life through technology.
