London Square has announced the launch of its brand new residential project, County Hall Kingston, located in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. This development beautifully marries historical preservation with contemporary residential design, transforming the 130-year-old Surrey County Hall into residential units, alongside three brand new buildings that collectively offer 264 units. The project is designed by Rolfe Judd, with Muchmore Design and Darling Associates Architects involved in the design of the new and heritage residential spaces, showcasing exquisite details and modern comfort.

The original building is a Grade II listed structure, retaining a wealth of original features, including stained glass windows crafted by The Guildford Glass Works and detailed wooden ceilings in the North Wing Conference Hall. The historic sections are divided into six zones, each named after significant historical figures or events from the area and featuring two quintessential English gardens. The three newly constructed apartments are named Ebbstone House, Riverton House, and Henmere House, reflecting their proximity to the River Thames. Each unit comes with a private terrace or balcony and is complemented by two modern landscaped gardens.
One of the standout features of the project is the 1893 Club, a guest clubhouse that includes multiple functional spaces. These comprise a private dining area known as The Tasting Room, a social game zone called The Games Parlour, a cozy cinema dubbed The Picture House, a co-working space referred to as The Study, a Pilates fitness studio called The Balance Studio, and a tranquil retreat space known as The Sanctum. All of these are complemented by 24-hour concierge service, creating a comprehensive lifestyle experience.

Additionally, the project preserves the original council chamber and court spaces, which have served as filming locations for several British series, including Horrific Murder Case Files, Hercule Poirot, and Downton Abbey, enhancing its overall historical and cultural value. Geographically, the project is situated in the conveniently located Kingston area, close to Kingston Station and Surbiton Station, offering a mere 30-minute journey to central London. In terms of lifestyle amenities, the surrounding area is bustling with shops, markets, schools, and dining options, and is in proximity to Kingston University, Kingston College, and Kingston School of Art, making it an ideal choice for families and investors alike.
Tim Gawthorn, the Sales and Marketing Director of London Square, pointed out that County Hall Kingston is one of the brand’s most ambitious development projects. It continues the successful legacy of Star & Garter, reimagining this historical landmark through high-quality restoration and innovative design. Andrew Long, Director of Rolfe Judd Architecture, stated that since getting involved in the redevelopment in 2020, he has witnessed the transformation of a government building into a modern community, marking a challenging yet meaningful design journey.
Residential units include open-plan layouts, as well as one, two, and three-bedroom configurations, with a planned completion date in 2027. Prices start from £480,000, promising to be a new residential choice that blends historical significance with modern functionality in the London area.
