Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced the establishment of a new software company called Macrohard, aimed at leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to comprehensively simulate Microsoft and challenge its dominance in the software sector. Musk emphasizes that Macrohard is a Pure AI Software Company, and its products will deeply integrate with his other venture, xAI, through the development of numerous specialized AI agents designed to generate and optimize code.
On social platform X, Musk stated that Microsoft doesn’t need to produce physical hardware and could, in theory, be completely simulated by AI. He elaborated on Macrohard's plan to create hundreds of AI agents specializing in programming, image and video generation or comprehension, mimicking human user interactions with software in virtual environments until the final output reaches optimal results. He casually mentioned the company name Macrohard, which, while humorously defined, is indeed a real project.
According to records from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, xAI has recently successfully registered the trademark for Macrohard. Musk has also mentioned that he is preparing to launch a Multi-Agency AI Software Company, which will be supported by the Grok chatbot developed by xAI. In fact, he had teased Macrohard translates to Microsoft. on social media as early as 2021, so this marks the official launch of the plan.
To bring his vision of Macrohard to life, Musk is leveraging the xAI Colossus supercomputer based in Memphis, USA, and plans to acquire a substantial number of Nvidia enterprise-grade GPUs. This move is aimed at competing with rivals like OpenAI and Meta for high-performance computing resources. He emphasized that this is a A grand and daunting challenge, with competition being exceptionally fierce.
In recent years, Microsoft has been vigorously promoting generative AI, integrating Copilot deeply into its Office and Windows products. Musk's move aims to use AI to challenge the current software ecosystem comprehensively, potentially developing tools that could rival Office. Earlier, he also expressed a desire to leverage AI for developing video games, highlighting his ambitions in the software realm.
