At the recent Made by Google event, Google announced a long-term partnership with NBA superstar Steph Curry. This four-time NBA champion and two-time MVP will serve as a performance consultant for Google’s health technology products, utilizing Google Cloud AI technology to enhance his basketball skills.
Google Cloud AI will assist Curry in intricately analyzing his shooting quality and optimizing his training regimen. The newly launched AI Basketball Coach experience utilizes Gemini technology in conjunction with Pixel cameras to record videos, analyze players’ shooting postures, and provide visual feedback. Curry has tested this technology during his three-day basketball training camp, Curry Camp, which guided 30 student athletes from across the U.S. Google states that through interactive demonstrations and challenges, the next generation of athletes will learn how to leverage the company’s technology to elevate their game.
As a performance consultant, Curry and his team will actively collaborate with Google’s health experts, product managers, and AI engineers to shape the future of Google Health and Fitbit products. They will experiment with Google’s personal health coach feature and provide feedback on how to improve personalized recommendations for individual users. Rick Osterloh, Senior Vice President of Google Devices and Services, stated that the collaboration with Curry and his team brings valuable insights to the company, blending his diverse vision with the company’s technology, which can be applied to athletes and anyone looking to maintain their health and boost productivity.
According to the partnership agreement, Curry and his team are set to utilize Google’s complete range of hardware products, including Pixel smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds. At a training camp in the Bay Area, Curry showcased Google’s latest product lineup to participants, featuring the Pixel 10, Pixel Watch 4, and the AI Basketball Coach. This collaboration is expected to generate promotional content, but it’s yet to be seen if Google will implement significant upgrades to the products under Curry’s guidance.
