At the latest IFA 2025 exhibition, Dolby Laboratories officially launched its groundbreaking imaging quality technology, Dolby Vision 2, hailed as Breakthrough Evolution. This innovation elevates HDR television display technology to new heights. Hisense was the first to announce its support for Dolby Vision 2, enabling its high-end RGB-MiniLED TVs to integrate this cutting-edge technology. In addition, the French streaming giant Canal+ promised to incorporate Dolby Vision 2 into its films, TV shows, and sports broadcasts.
Dolby Vision 2 is built on an innovative imaging engine, with its core feature being Content Intelligence. It leverages advanced AI technology to automatically adjust TV settings for the best viewing experience, optimizing based on the content being watched and the surrounding conditions. This intelligent analysis technology includes multiple specialized functions, with Precision Black focusing on enhancing visibility in darker scenes, ensuring that the director’s artistic intent shines through in various lighting environments.
Additionally, the Light Sense feature utilizes an ambient light detection system, in conjunction with reference lighting data from the content source, to optimize TV output for various indoor environments. Specifically designed for sports and gaming content, the system can fine-tune white point settings and dynamic controls to meet the demands of live broadcasts and interactive experiences.
Dolby Vision 2’s bidirectional tone mapping technology allows high-end TVs to deliver higher brightness and sharper contrast while preserving the original vision of artists. This advanced technology goes beyond HDR and introduces a new feature called Authentic Motion, which is the world’s first creativity-driven dynamic control tool. It adjusts dynamic effects on a shot-by-shot basis, reducing unnecessary jitter while maintaining an authentic cinematic feel.
The market will launch two tiers of products: Dolby Vision 2 Max, designed for high-end TVs, fully utilizing the processing power of top-notch display devices and offering unique premium features. Meanwhile, the standard version, Dolby Vision 2, targets the mainstream market, significantly enhancing image quality for everyday users through a new imaging engine and Content Intelligence technology.
Hisense is set to become the first television brand to launch models supporting Dolby Vision 2, integrating the MediaTek Pentonic 800 chip, the first silicon chip to support Dolby Vision 2 technology. Sonny Ming, Hisense’s Director of Product Marketing, stated that this aligns perfectly with their customers’ expectations for a premium TV experience. Combining Dolby Vision 2 with Hisense’s RGB-MiniLED technology will deliver stunning visual effects and unlock the full potential of TVs in terms of wide color gamut and high brightness.
The French media group Canal+ has become the first media entertainment company to commit to supporting Dolby Vision 2, planning to incorporate this cutting-edge technology into films, series, and live sports broadcasts. Stéphane Baumier, Canal+’s Chief Technology Officer, stated that the collaboration with Dolby showcases Canal+’s leadership in innovation, as they are dedicated to providing viewers with an unparalleled viewing experience.
Current Dolby Vision content remains compatible, but only displays that support Dolby Vision 2 can recognize and utilize the additional metadata features. With the impending arrival of CES 2026, the industry anticipates that more TV manufacturers will showcase products that support this cutting-edge technology.
