iPhone 17 Series Features Ultra-Thin Design and Fresh Upgrades

Apple is set to launch its brand-new iPhone 17 series this September, and recently, international media have managed to get their hands on prototypes, revealing a sneak peek at the series' fresh designs. While these prototypes aren’t functional devices, their appearance and structure already closely resemble the final product. The most attention-grabbing among them is an ultra-thin model called the iPhone 17 Air, which the media has described as one of the most innovative designs in recent years.

According to foreign media reports, when you hold the iPhone 17 Air model in your hands, its astonishingly slim profile is almost unbelievable—practically half the thickness of the current iPhone 16 Pro. This highlights Apple’s relentless pursuit of ultimate sleekness in design.

This sleek new device boasts a 6.6-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen is larger than that of the Pro model, offering a more immersive visual experience. However, to keep the price within the estimated range of $900 to $1,000, Apple has made some hardware compromises. The back of the device features a single 48MP lens, foregoing the dual- or triple-camera setup. This lens is cleverly integrated into a camera bar that matches the device's color, creating a fresh and minimalist design.

Although it features just one camera lens, it's understood that Apple will implement software functionality to offer 2x digital zoom, similar to the existing iPhone 16e. The basic photography features are still sufficient for daily use. However, there are certain limitations when it comes to advanced photography and video recording, as noted by some foreign media The camera and video capabilities might be the weak points of this device..

The ultra-slim design of the iPhone 17 Air presents a series of engineering challenges. For example, its USB-C port is slightly positioned toward the back of the device due to limited internal space, requiring adjustments to the screen driver and circuit module layout. Additionally, the device's side features only two speaker holes, a stark contrast to the five or six-hole designs of current models, which is expected to impact audio performance.

The side buttons, due to space constraints, adopt Apple’s thinnest design to date, which foreign media have described as The buttons are almost embedded within the body., showcasing a minimalist aesthetic. However, this model still retains the zoom control button, allowing users to perform zoom in and out operations.

Apart from the iPhone 17 Air, foreign media also showcased the design models for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The primary changes for these two models focus on the camera module, which has shifted from its previous placement in the upper left corner to spanning across the entire top of the device. While the lens arrangement retains its triangular formation, the flash, microphone, and LiDAR scanner have been relocated to the right side of the back panel.

These changes are anticipated to align with the telescope’s upgrades, with foreign media speculating that Apple plans to incorporate a 48-megapixel sensor into the telephoto lens, introducing true Super Zoom functionality to the Pro series. However, some major rumored changes in the market, such as an all-aluminum unibody design and a MagSafe opening supporting reverse wireless charging, are currently absent from the models. Overall, the body design remains similar to the iPhone 16 Pro series.

The front camera remains unchanged, with the Pro and Pro Max featuring 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays respectively. The size of the Dynamic Island is identical to the version introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro.

As for the entry-level iPhone 17, its appearance is nearly identical to the iPhone 16, without adopting the horizontal camera design seen on other models. According to foreign media, there are no significant changes to the button placement, USB-C port, body materials, or screen specifications. However, it is noteworthy that Apple might redefine the overall product positioning and pricing structure.

It is speculated that Apple may keep the pricing of the iPhone 17 at $800, while introducing the iPhone 17 Air as a mid-range model. Meanwhile, the prices for the Pro and Pro Max versions could increase to $1,200 and $1,400, respectively, clearly defining the market positioning of each model.
