Microsoft Product Manager Merill Fernando recently shared a personal experience on social media, recounting how, after being forced to use Windows for just an hour, he immediately returned to the familiarity of macOS. He described the feeling as akin to an astronaut safely landing back on Earth, offering a sense of relief. His post was accompanied by a space-themed photo of American singer Katy Perry, quickly garnering over 707,000 views and more than 11,000 likes.
Fernando half-jokingly remarked that if Steve Ballmer were still at the helm of Microsoft back then, his comments might have put his job at risk. However, over time, Microsoft’s attitude towards employees using Macs has significantly improved. Currently, Fernando is using a company-provided MacBook as his work device, and he has even purchased a Mac Studio at his own expense to serve as a platform for hosting podcasts, writing newsletters, and developing open-source projects.
He also runs a YouTube channel, with the most popular video being an introduction on how to use the development tool VS Code in a macOS environment. This highlights his deep reliance on the Apple ecosystem.
