Qatar Airways has recently accelerated the rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi services into its Boeing 777 fleet, a project that kicked off earlier this year in 2024. In just four months, the airline has installed high-speed internet on over 30 aircraft, achieving more than 50% coverage of its Boeing 777 fleet—far exceeding the original timeline by about 70%. It’s anticipated that by the end of the second quarter this year, all 57 Boeing 777s will be fully equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi.
Qatar Airways’ engineering team has drastically reduced the installation time for each aircraft to under 10 hours, significantly improving efficiency from the previous 2 to 3 days. The group’s CEO, Mohammed Al-Meer, stated that this innovation will provide passengers with a seamless network experience, and they plan to expand this service to more routes.
In addition to Qatar Airways, several other airlines such as AirBaltic, SAS, United Airlines, and Air France have also joined the Starlink service this year. United Airlines plans to start flights equipped with Starlink in spring 2025, showcasing the gradual adoption of this technology in the aviation industry.
Qatar Airways has successfully completed the deployment of Starlink ahead of schedule, showcasing their unwavering commitment to enhancing the passenger experience. As technology matures and more airlines begin to adopt it, in-flight Wi-Fi is set to become the new industry standard in the coming years, fundamentally transforming the way we travel by air.
