These days, most of us know that Android devices are solid for gaming, but stepping up to play PC games on an Android tablet? That’s been a trickier game to win. Up until now, hopping into PC gaming on a tablet involved juggling different emulators, navigating complex installation processes, and maybe even needing to root your device — not exactly user-friendly. Enter the scene: Xiaomi's latest drop, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, which is about to change the game big time. This sleek tablet is revving up with a built-in WinPlay engine, unlocking the ability to play a vast majority of Windows games from the Steam platform — all without needing to connect to the internet! Stick around to find out all the juicy details.
Xiaomi just dropped some bomb news on their social media: their new tablet is packing the HyperOS and, thanks to the built-in WinPlay engine, you can game even without a connection. This bad boy uses triple-layer virtualization translation to keep it smooth, shaving GPU performance loss down to a mere 2.9%. Zhang Guoquan, head of Xiaomi's mobile software division, spilled the tea too. He says the WinPlay engine is pretty much like having an official Windows gaming emulator pre-loaded on your device. Just install your game, tap the desktop icon, and you're ready to play. No fuss, all fun.
Zhang Guoquan recently dished on his experience testing Tomb Raider Game of the Year Edition on the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, and let me just say, the stats are lit! He clocked the game running smooth at 45 fps, with a mere 8.3W power consumption, delivering a performance that parallels native Android tablet gaming. Zhang attributes this stellar performance to Xiaomi's HyperCore system overhaul. This tech wizardry dives deep into the kernel layer of the system to fine-tune GPU power on a per-frame basis, and smartly allocates resources, significantly reducing the resource load when running Windows games. Talk about a game-changer!
Moreover, the WinPlay engine also supports connecting keyboards and mice, and you can even hook up an Xbox controller via Bluetooth for gameplay. It allows up to four players to battle it out online in the same location, offering an almost identical gaming experience to that on a PC.
However, everyone should note that this new feature is still in the testing phase. Zhang Guoquan stated that it won't be officially launched in the short term and is currently only supported on the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. The company is now recruiting internal testers, so users who are eager to enjoy PC gaming on their Xiaomi tablets might need to hang tight a little longer.
