The latest news is that the classic compression software WinRAR is stepping into the fashion scene with a handbag designed by the brand Tern, named WinRAR Archive Messenger Bag Tern, priced at $150 (approximately HK$1,170). This handbag sold out rapidly when it was first launched in February this year, and it is now reopening for pre-order, expected to start shipping in September.
The design inspiration for Tern comes from the unique interface of the WinRAR software. The handbag boasts a square shape, with a distinctive design that appears to mimic the icon of Compressed file from the software. It features a single hard-shell compartment and uses a magnetic clasp for effortless access. Measuring 21.4 × 14 × 7 centimeters, this handbag is perfect for everyday carry.
In the mass-production version, Tern has made a few modifications: the shoulder strap design is now detachable, allowing users to adjust it with clips for greater flexibility. Although the handbag is priced on the higher side, about equivalent to purchasing five licenses for WinRAR software, it’s worth noting that aside from the handbag, Tern continues to collaborate with WinRAR to release a range of limited-edition merchandise, including jeans, T-shirts, and caps, totaling nine products. However, as of now, all items are showing as out of stock.
