YouTube Premium is a premium subscription service for the video platform, primarily focused on ad-free viewing. Recently, reports have emerged that Google is planning to launch a budget subscription service named YouTube “Premium Lite”, specifically targeting users who don’t frequently watch music videos.
We’re hearing that this more affordable version will keep the ad-free viewing experience, but ads will still pop up when watching music videos. In contrast, the higher-priced YouTube Premium full version lets users enjoy a completely ad-free experience across all content, including music videos, while other features remain unchanged.
A spokesperson for YouTube noted that the company has been testing new YouTube Premium options in various markets to provide more flexible choices, allowing most videos to be ad-free. They aim to expand this service to more users with the support of their partners.
The Premium Lite plan has been tested in international markets for several months and is expected to launch soon in the U.S., Australia, Germany, and Thailand. As for the launch in Hong Kong, we will have to wait for further updates.
