Having always loved movies, he learned to view a piece from different perspectives after entering the industry, switching back and forth between “the audience’s eyes” and “the actor’s eyes.” He absorbed a wealth of theatrical knowledge, gradually establishing his own unique cinematic language. “A director once told me, if you want to act, you need to watch more films. Viewing from an actor’s perspective can create a sense of detachment, and over time, it can become a sort of occupational hazard. So I also remind myself to relax sometimes and simply feel the work.” He has a habit of recording the films he’s watched on his phone, and he recently shared that he particularly enjoys the Thai movie “The Full Time Grandson” and the Taiwanese series “The Queen of Drama,” especially the latter, whose storylines relate to the entertainment industry, making him more invested in it.

Viewing from an actor’s perspective can create a sense of detachment, and over time, it can become a sort of occupational hazard. So I also remind myself to relax sometimes and simply feel the work.” He has a habit of recording the films he’s watched on his phone, and he recently shared that he particularly enjoys the Thai movie “The Full Time Grandson” and the Taiwanese series “The Queen of Drama,” especially the latter, whose storylines relate to the entertainment industry, making him more invested in it.

After opening up, he began to speak freely, expressing that he feels he has become quieter after turning thirty. Unlike before when he was reticent due to shyness, he now understands how to find the right balance in conversation. Perhaps because the entertainment industry is always so vibrant, he seeks stability and simplicity in his private life — in both life and love. “I’ve been with my girlfriend for a long time, and sometimes friends ask if I’ve ever thought about the possibility of losing her one day. Honestly, I’ve never thought like that.” A long and stable relationship is a rare and precious happiness. He laughs and says that while he’s not a romantic person, he expresses his love in his own way. “I usually take care of some daily chores for her, fixing the electricity, the plumbing, like a handyman (laughs).”

Cedric He Wei-Heng’s romantic philosophy is hidden in two moments—one is the lightning-fast duels on the stage; the other is the unconsciously softening curve at the corner of his eye when he looks at his fiancée. With his signature silvery-white braid tied high, Cedric appears effortlessly at ease in front of the camera. You can easily feel his immense passion for fencing and the pursuit of his dreams through his words. Yet, whenever his fiancée is mentioned, you can see a gentle spark in his eyes, revealing that he is just an ordinary man captivated by love.

“Most of my achievements in life so far have come from fencing,” Cedric describes 2024 as “the best year of my life,” filled with challenges and growth. The most memorable moment was overcoming numerous obstacles in April to reach an important milestone. Despite the increasing number of titles, as a fencer recently ranked 11th in the world, he doesn’t see these as pressure, but as motivation. These experiences have strengthened his belief that as long as he maintains his passion and persistence for fencing, he can continually surpass himself and embrace more challenges and achievements.

Cedric, who has already started training for the next Olympics, recalls that when he was a child filling out “My Aspirations,” he actually wrote down the words “Professional Athlete.” “Back then, I was playing a lot of different sports, but I never thought I would become a fencer; it could have just as easily been football or swimming,” he reflects. After graduating from high school and becoming a full-time athlete, he has met many friends from around the world, essentially opening the door to a new world. “Sports have made me think things through more carefully; I’m no longer as impulsive, and it has brought a lot of positive influences into my life.”

His fiancée is another positive influence in his life. “Every time she smiles, it makes me feel like life is bursting with energy.
