Paul Rodgers, the powerhouse frontman of Bad Company who once conquered the global rock scene with his strong vocal prowess, has been making fewer public appearances in recent years due to health issues. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he revealed that after suffering a total of 13 strokes—11 of which were mild and 2 more severe—and enduring extensive rehabilitation, his health has significantly improved. He expressed that he’s feeling healthier now than ever before, without taking any medication, including previous prescriptions for high cholesterol and the blood pressure medication Ramipril. Instead, he’s focused on rebuilding his strength through regular exercise and a nutritious diet.
Bad Company is set to officially receive recognition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Rodgers was asked if he would reunite with the band for a performance on the night of the ceremony. He stated We might, we will see how things go., that no final decision has been made yet. However, he also hinted that if there is a performance, he might choose to sing classic hits from Bad Company Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy. When asked if he’s looking forward to returning to the stage, he chuckled: They want us to do it this way, and I might just do it.—while that tone is retained, it also leaves plenty of room for fans’ imagination.
Regarding his speech at the ceremony, Rodgers admitted to feeling a bit nervous, as he’s not used to public speaking. However, he added that sharing the stage with Bad Company was not just a significant moment in the band’s history, but also a peak in his personal journey of recovery. Over the past decade, he has had to relearn how to walk and talk, and singing had once seemed out of reach. He candidly expressed: During my rehabilitation period, what I desired most was not singing, but how to speak again and how to walk once more..
Rodgers’ wife, Cynthia Kereluk, also shared that many family members have been affected by strokes, including his sister who has had to rely on a wheelchair for mobility, and both of his parents passed away due to stroke and heart-related diseases. This makes Rodgers’ recovery journey even more challenging and remarkable. Today, he’s back to his daily life and involved in recording work, recently lending his voice to a tribute album for Bad Company, showcasing his renewed passion for music.
As for whether the performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be Bad Company’s last time on stage together, Rodgers replied with his usual sense of humor, saying: I never say ‘absolute’, that’s from 《James Bond》.’s line. For the Eagles, hell has frozen over, so you can never say never.
Regardless of whether he ultimately performs or not, Paul Rodgers’ recent public appearance and updates on his health have already injected hope into many fans. After flirting with death, his ability to share his experiences with clarity and even hint at a potential return to the stage truly embodies the raw spirit of rock and roll.
