Alibi – Wine Dine Be Social, part of the Hong Kong Cordis Hotel, will host a highly anticipated cocktail event on August 7, 2025, featuring Shinya Koba, the founder and head bartender of yakoboku, a renowned artisan bar from Kumamoto City and the 25th participant from Asia’s 50 Best Bars. On the evening of the event, Shinya Koba will collaborate with the Alibi team to offer a unique cocktail experience that blends Japanese tradition with modern mixology. The event will take place from 8 PM to 11 PM.

Since its founding, yakoboku has adhered to the philosophy of Unity of body and earth., deeply engaging with the land, agriculture, and water sources of Kumamoto in Kyushu, infusing local culture into cocktail creations. Nestled within a traditional Japanese house with a history of 150 years, the bar boasts a strong local style and, in just three years, has skyrocketed from 84th to 25th on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list, becoming a hot spot for international enthusiasts.
During this guest night, Shinya Koba focused on sustainable cocktails, featuring three premium spirits selected in collaboration with ecoSPIRITS: Tried & True vodka, Los Arcos tequila, and Widges gin, creating three unique cocktails. These drinks not only preserve the delicate flavors of Japan but also embody Alibi’s philosophy of zero-waste cocktails, showcasing a drinking experience that balances green sustainability with artisanal aesthetics.
Shinya Koba has an impressive career in bartending spanning over 20 years. He began his journey mastering the art of mixology at the young age of 19, traveling to various places including Tokyo, Sendai, and Singapore. In 2021, he was awarded the title of Bartender of the Year at the Diageo World Class Japan, and in 2023, he became a brand ambassador for Buffalo Trace Distillery, solidifying his status as one of the most respected figures in today’s bartending scene.
Alibi, designed by the international architecture firm Stickman, spans approximately 5,500 square feet, characterized by an open layout and a chic, minimalist style that accommodates up to 140 guests. In addition to its exquisite blend of European and Asian cuisine, the cocktail selection stands out—particularly with its recent push for a zero-waste mixology concept, spearheaded by bar manager Billy Lau. This innovative approach aims to creatively reduce waste while embodying a sustainable spirit.
This time, the Shinya Koba and Western-style cocktail night features cocktails priced at HKD 148 each, and reservations are now open.
