The renowned British wine merchant Berry Bros. & Rudd has announced the launch of Shindo Experimental 01, a single malt Japanese whiskey from Shindo Distillery. This whiskey is crafted by legendary Japanese distiller Shinozaki, representing a new brand established in 2021. It emerges from one of Japan’s oldest brewing families, showcasing a perfect blend of history and innovation.
The essence of this collaboration lies in the pursuit of craftsmanship. Berry Bros. & Rudd is renowned for its carefully selected wines, while Shindo Distillery boasts over 200 years of experience in brewing sake and shochu. Their intense focus on fermentation has granted this whisky a unique flavor, vividly capturing the essence of Japanese artistry and delicacy.
Shindo utilizes a variety of rare yeasts for fermentation, creating a whisky experience that unfolds with multiple layers of flavor. The raw material for Shindo Experimental 01 is carefully selected malt barley that has not been peat-smoked. It matures in meticulously chosen casks, comprising 91% Bourbon barrels, 4% new Mizunara barrels, 4% Oloroso sherry casks, and 1% refill Scottish whisky barrels. This unique combination of cask types lends it an exceptional flavor.
This whiskey has a bottling strength of 50% ABV and is part of a micro-batch release, with only 300 bottles available on the UK market, exclusively sold through Berry Bros. & Rudd. Rob Whitehead, the spirits buyer at Berry Bros. & Rudd, stated: This fine brew hails from Fukuoka, Japan, showcasing innovative fermentation techniques and exceptional distillation craftsmanship that makes you want to sip it again and again..
Shindo Experimental 01 will soon be available for pre-order, exclusively on the Berry Bros. & Rudd website, priced at £63.50 (approximately $85). This limited release is an opportunity you definitely don’t want to miss.
