Located in Tsim Sha Tsui’s Borrell Lane, Spice Bazaar has officially opened its doors. This restaurant focuses on modern Indian grilled cuisine, co-founded by industry veteran Imran Khaleel and former royal chef Balram Yadav from Dubai. The restaurant features a minimalist and comfortable design with just 30 seats, incorporating artistic elements like hand-painted murals at the entrance that pay homage to India’s harvest festival, Sankranti. The menu is rooted in classic Indian dishes while infusing contemporary creativity, offering a rich and layered culinary experience.

Executive Chef Yadav brings over 30 years of international culinary experience, having worked in renowned restaurants including Jashan in Central, Michelin-rated New Punjab Club, and Chutney. He also held the position of Executive Sous Chef at Leela Hong Kong, specializing in fine Indian cuisine. The opening of Spice Bazaar is particularly meaningful for Yadav, as his daughter Roshni is also involved in the management, infusing the brand with a rich family essence.

The Tandoor dishes at the restaurant are emblematic, featuring select meats, seasonal seafood, and homemade Paneer that are marinated in spices and cooked over high heat in a charcoal oven to lock in the freshness. Recommended options include: Chutney Paneer Tikka, which is grilled to perfection with a crispy outer layer and a smoky, chewy interior; Gilafi Sheekh Kebab, a blend of New Zealand lamb and sweet pepper that offers a delicate texture and abundant aroma; and Murgh Kali Mirch Tikka, marinated overnight in black pepper and Greek yogurt, resulting in tender, juicy meat.

When it comes to curry dishes, the restaurant meticulously employs traditional recipes, with each dish slow-cooked to deliver a rich flavor. Must-try options include: Palak Paneer, a creamy spinach curry with Indian cheese, yielding a smooth texture; Mirchi Ka Salan, a traditional dish hailing from Hyderabad, featuring green chilies simmered with peanuts, sesame, and coconut, creating a perfect balance of tanginess and nutty aroma; and Old Delhi-Style Butter Chicken, where charcoal-grilled chicken is paired with a curry sauce made from tomatoes and clarified butter, offering a complex layering of flavors.

Additionally, the restaurant offers signature appetizers inspired by Indian street food, such as Irani Samosa, which features a super thin pastry wrapped around spiced onion filling for that perfect crunch; and Hyderabadi Chicken 65, where golden fried boneless chicken is tossed with curry leaves and garlic sauce for a unique flavor. The restaurant specially includes classic dishes from founder Imran’s hometown of Hyderabad, like Hyderabadi Lamb Shank Biryani, flavored with saffron, cardamom, and cloves, and steamed under a dough seal to ensure layers of aromatic goodness—definitely a must-try!

The restaurant also offers homemade Indian breads, including Kashmiri Naan, which is infused with almonds, cashews, and honey, giving it a subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with rich curries. For dessert, you must try the Indian French Toast, made from brioche bread fried to a golden crisp, served with ice cream and mixed berries for a rich texture. Don’t miss the Gulab Jamun Bomb either, featuring a rose cardamom syrup drizzled over the outer layer, with ice cream inside, sweet yet not overwhelming.

Spice Bazaar also offers fantastic weekday lunch sets that include appetizers, main dishes, naan or fragrant rice, slow-cooked black lentil puree, desserts, and drinks. The vegetarian set is HK$98 per person, while the non-vegetarian set is HK$108, allowing diners to savor authentic Indian flavors even during their busy routines.
