On the opening night of the 2025 Cologne Game Show, Game Science officially unveiled the second installment in the Black Myth series, titled Black Myth: Zhong Kui, along with the premiere of its first CG teaser trailer. This game draws inspiration from the famous Zhong Kui in Chinese folklore and represents a fresh creation from Game Science one year after the release of Black Myth: Wukong.
According to game science, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is currently still in the early development stage and has not yet showcased any actual gameplay content. This game will continue the commercial model of its predecessor, maintaining its identity as a single-player action RPG, but it will provide a completely new experience in both gameplay and narrative.
The founder and CEO Feng Ji explained the reasons behind the development of this new project in a Q&A on the official website. He noted that after completing the story of Black Myth: Wukong, the team was eager to explore more diverse gaming experiences. As a result, they selected some more challenging game features and infused more creativity into the world-building and narrative.
Feng Jiti mentioned that the choice of Zhong Kui was the result of multiple considerations, and he is confident about his new work, which will bring fresh changes and creativity to the game. He also emphasized that the story of Black Myth: Wukong will not end here and that more content will follow.
It's worth mentioning that Feng Ji revealed on Weibo that the team had initially started producing DLC for Black Myth: Wukong, but ultimately decided to focus on a new black myth project first. This new work will feature new heroes, gameplay, visuals, technology, and a fresh story. He stated that the legend of Wukong will return in a more complete and solid form.
With the announcement of the new game, Black Myth: Wukong's official social media account has been renamed to 【Black Myth】. Moving forward, all official information regarding games in the series will be released through this unified account. Additionally, Game Science has previously registered multiple trademarks for Chinese traditional mythological stories, including Black Myth: Jianziya and Black Myth: Wukong, and more related games may be launched in the future to further expand the framework of The Mythical Universe of China.
