Recently, a new strategy adventure game called “Chains of Freedom” has been released, developed by the Lithuanian studio Nordcurrent. This game undoubtedly boasts impressive quality. Its gameplay is influenced by the “XCOM” series, incorporating unique elements that deepen the strategy aspect. Currently, a free demo version is available on Steam, allowing players to experience it ahead of the full release.
Set against the backdrop of Eastern Europe, this game unfolds after a massive impact caused by a biochemical crystal known as “EDEN,” throwing the world into chaos. Players step into the shoes of a commander of peacekeeping forces, exploring lands overtaken by criminals amidst helicopter crashes and being separated from their team. They will journey through polluted villages, laboratories hidden deep within dense forests, and heavily guarded military bases, all in a quest to find teammates and combat various foes.
The game “Chains of Freedom” is divided into three main parts: exploration, stealth, and combat. Players can freely explore without enemies present, gathering resources and crafting various equipment and tools to enhance their team’s strength. When facing enemies, players can choose to sneak past them or position themselves strategically before engaging in combat. Masterful positioning can even prevent enemies from counterattacking, ensuring an easy victory.
Combat is conducted in a turn-based模式, where players use action points (AP) to perform movements, take cover, and shoot each turn. What’s more, the game introduces an innovative ‘Focus Aim’ mechanism, allowing players to spend extra AP to enhance their accuracy, providing more strategic depth in decision-making. Additionally, the game features a wide variety of weapons, including flamethrowers and mortars. By collecting biocrystals from different locations, players can further enhance their characters’ abilities.
“Chains of Freedom” is set to release in 2025, supporting platforms include Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on Steam and EGS. Currently, a demo version is available for download on Steam, allowing players to experience the exhilarating prologue.
