Techland is set to unleash a brand new creation, Dying Light: The Beast, slated for release in 2025. This title will be available on the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Steam platforms, with pre-orders now open. The Dying Light series, a first-person action game themed around a post-apocalyptic zombie world, has captured the hearts of gamers since its debut in 2015, thanks to its unique storyline and parkour elements.
In a recent interview, series director Tymon Smektala shared that when the studio initially developed its first title, it was just an unknown small team facing limited development funds. However, this game ultimately achieved astonishing success in both sales and critical acclaim, and it remains a delightful memory for them to this day.
In 2022, Techland released the sequel Dying Light 2 Stay Human. While it performed well commercially, many players criticized it for a perceived decline in challenge, suggesting that in their pursuit of sales, the studio had lost sight of its original vision. Additionally, the design of the female lead came under fire due to considerations of political correctness, with players feeling that the studio failed to address their preferences and desires, ultimately impacting the game's reputation.
Tymon Smektala expressed in an interview that he respects and understands the feedback from players regarding Dying Light 2, acknowledging that some of the concepts in this work did not meet player expectations. Hence, for the development of the third installment, the team’s goal is to return to the core features of the original while integrating the strengths of the second.
He emphasized some of the essence lost in We are working hard to restore 《Dying Light 2, including adjustments to the zombie response mechanisms, the character and character setting of the protagonist, as well as the difficulty and fluidity of parkour elements in the game.
