A physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI is set to be released in 2027. According to reports, Rockstar Games is considering this significant delay. This move aims to prevent frequent leaks that occur during the development phase, as the studio hopes to safeguard the game’s storyline and gameplay by launching a digital version first.
In the past, Rockstar has faced multiple security issues, including the leak of gameplay footage in 2022. Internal discussions have noted that the risk of physical copies hitting the shelves too early could allow players to access the game ahead of time and spread spoilers on social media. Therefore, while the digital version is set to launch on November 19, the physical version might take a staggered release approach, with delays possibly ranging from a few weeks to several months.
This change reflects the gaming industry’s increasing emphasis on digital distribution, and it’s quite rare for major titles not to release a physical version at launch. Players are currently keeping a close eye on Take-Two Interactive’s quarterly earnings call scheduled for February, where they expect to unveil details about pre-order arrangements and the timeline for the physical version’s release.
