The unknown fear in horror games is a force that plunges players into the depths of terror. The journey we’re introducing today masterfully fuses these elements together. As players navigate through dense fog, they must carefully hide from lurking monsters, relying solely on messages received via their smartphone. However, the phone’s battery is limited and can only be charged while pedaling a bike. This unique setup intensifies both tension and thrills, demanding players to balance escape with battery management.
The captivating journey unfolds in an open-world first-person horror exploration adventure game, crafted by the indie studio Goodwin Games using Unreal Engine 5. In the story, players set out on a bicycle ride to visit a friend's house, only to find themselves stranded in a dense, enveloping fog. Out of nowhere, a cryptic warning arrives: 'Never look back.' Eerie sounds linger close to your ears, instantly amplifying the tension to spine-chilling heights.
Set in a world shrouded in dense fog and uncertainty, players must rely on their smartphones to gather information. However, this information can sometimes lead them down dangerous paths, and the number of choices available is limited. To make matters worse, smartphones are prone to running out of battery quickly when not riding, forcing players to juggle between the urge to escape via riding and managing their device's battery life as they search for a way out of the mist. Along the journey, players can also dismount their bicycles to explore further, which may lead to encounters with other people. Whether or not to trust these newfound individuals, however, is left entirely up to the player’s judgment.
According to the information revealed officially, this game collects data based on the player's progress, adjusting the map environment accordingly and unlocking new locations, characters, missions, and other content. However, the release date for 《なかなかの旅》 has not yet been announced, and the game is expected to launch on the Steam platform for PC.
