Disney’s classic animation Steamboat Willie has been part of our lives since its debut in 1928. According to U.S. copyright law, its copyright will end in 2023, making it enter the public domain on January 1, 2024. As a result, games inspired by Mickey Mouse from Willie the Tugboat have been continually released, and the one we’re introducing today, Bad Cheese, is one of them. This game features a horror theme and is available on multiple platforms.
Bad Cheese is essentially a 3D game, but the characters are presented in a 2D cartoon style, creating a strong nostalgic vibe. The game is set in a mansion where players take on the role of a timid and chubby little mouse whose mission is to help with chores while their mother is away, all while being cautious of their mentally unstable father. Players must strive to demonstrate good behavior to avoid upsetting their father, or they will face terrifying consequences.
Players are tasked with cleaning dishes, sweeping the floor, tidying up the house, doing laundry, frying French fries, and fetching medicine for their father. The game is interspersed with challenges involving various demons, some friendly and some hostile, making it essential to utilize tools to fend them off. Additionally, while exploring the mansion, players can search for snacks and character models scattered around, which adds an extra layer of fun to the collection aspects.
Despite the fact that Bad Cheese is inspired by Mickey Mouse, due to copyright and trademark issues, the game cannot be directly referred to as Mickey Mouse. However, the original version of Willie the Tugboat will still be featured in the game, along with mini-games Space Defenders. This game is set to release soon and will be available on platforms including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Steam / GOG.com, with a demo version already available for download on the store page.
