The new release Ratopia has caught the attention of players with its unique background and gameplay. Developed by the South Korean indie studio Cassel Games, players take on the role of a mouse queen, dedicated to building a vibrant underground city. Since its recent launch, Ratopia has received over three thousand positive reviews due to its distinctive economic system and diverse elements of disease. While there is still room for improvement in UI design and details, the overall performance shines brighter than its flaws.
The essence of the game lies in urban construction, involving the establishment of laws, the creation of power systems, and the construction of various facilities to meet the needs of the mouse population for work, entertainment, food, and sleep, forming a healthy economic cycle. As the city expands, population growth brings new challenges, such as the spread of diseases that players must cleverly manage.
Moreover, the game presents external threats, such as attacks from weasels and enemies emerging from underground mining. This requires players not only to build the city but also to craft gear for the rodent citizens to defend against invaders. With over 150 building options available, each game starts with randomly generated terrains, ensuring that every replay feels fresh.
Currently, Ratopia has launched in early access on PC Steam, with plans to continuously release new content. The official version is expected to be released in about a year, and it will support Traditional Chinese.
