The popular game Cyberpunk 2077 is set to make a comeback with a new animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Recently, CD PROJEKT RED announced at Anime Expo in Los Angeles that they will once again collaborate with the renowned TRIGGER animation studio to launch an all-new independent animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, with the story set in the widely acclaimed Cyberpunk 2077 universe.
At this grand event, alongside the first reveal of the brand new logo and poster design for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, it was confirmed that the director’s role will be taken over by 海五十嵐. The guest lineup is incredibly impressive, featuring Hugo Award-winning screenwriter Bartosz Sztybor, director 今石洋之 from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and the voice talents behind Lucy Kushinada and David Martinez, Emi Lo and Zach Aguilar, respectively. The event will be hosted by well-known YouTuber Joey “The Anime Man” Bizinger.
At the meeting, director Ishi Yamato officially transferred the directorial responsibilities to Ugarashi Kai, who previously worked on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and SSSS.Gridman. This will be his first time directing on his own. Additionally, Kanno Ichi, known for contributions to Promea and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, will take on the role of chief character designer, while the script adaptation will be handled by Otsuka Masahiko, who has worked on Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and Promea.
The showrunner, story writer, and producer Bartosz Sztybor of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 stated: Though David’s story has come to an end, the Night City still harbors more tales waiting to be discovered.
