DC Studios has recently launched a brand new Superman movie Superman, written and directed by James Gunn, officially hitting theaters this week, followed by the release of its Rotten Tomatoes ratings.
Superman opened on Rotten Tomatoes with a fresh rating of 90%, which was later slightly adjusted to 86% (currently having received 147 reviews). It received the official fresh certification, marking a successful kickoff for the new chapter of the DC Universe (DCU).
In terms of positive reviews, Entertainment Weekly highlighted how James Gunn imbued Super DogKrypto with adorable yet exasperating traits, further showcasing Superman’s empathy and adding a layer of fun to the film. Rolling Stone also commented on this, while Gunn leaves an imprint in this myth, revealing his vision for the future within this vast IP universe. Overall, it’s quite intriguing and exciting.Variety praised: Gunn has meticulously crafted a complex hero’s journey that is both captivating and poignant, occasionally leaving viewers feeling a bit weary, but it’s definitely a must-watch..
However, in terms of negative reviews, the Guardian criticized: How many more superhero movies do we need to watch, especially those about Superman, that all end with the same spectacular storyline showcasing a series of collapsing CGI skyscrapers? While it was initially intriguing, that thrill has faded. IndieWire pointed out: Presenting a comic in a vivid and lifelike manner while also imbuing it with a sense of realism is certainly a significant challenge… but an even greater challenge is when the surrounding world feels weightless; how can the audience care whether someone has the ability to fly?
Superman is now showing in major theaters in 2D, 3D, IMAX, 4DX, MX4D, Atmos, Dolby Cinema, and SCREENX formats.
