Demna has ushered in a bold new chapter for Gucci, unexpectedly unveiling a fresh collection that features 38 unique looks on Instagram and the brand's official website. This reveal, perfectly timed just a day before Milan Fashion Week's grand showcase, has sparked immense anticipation within the fashion world. The entire collection is conceptualized around a series of works captured by photographer Catherine Opie, reinterpreting the core DNA of Gucci.
The collection is designed based on a diverse array of character archetypes, standing out like a visual textbook. Partyboy and Narcissist showcase bold, fearless nightclub attire, featuring sequin vests and silk shirts unbuttoned to the waist; Figo pairs a crisp leather biker jacket with a strikingly bare torso, exuding intense personality; while Androgynous opts for a sheer mesh top. In contrast, Director displays traditional charm in a fitted black suit; Nerd integrates elements of the 1970s with a red and green striped knit vest paired with draped trousers, topped off with a mini equestrian buckle and layered with a cropped leather blazer. Even as Demna reshapes Gucci's brand language, his signature wide shoulders, oversized silhouettes, and provocative sensibility remain unmistakably clear.
In his new role at Gucci, Demna seems to have dialed back his previous bold marketing strategies. During his time at Balenciaga, he used guerrilla marketing tactics to shocking effect, like having Kim Kardashian appear at the Met Gala in a head-to-toe black mask—a moment that still fascinates many. However, his first collection for Unannounced Launch still showcases Demna's unique personality. The brand has also confirmed that this collection will be available for a limited time at ten select Gucci stores worldwide until October 12, with locations including Beijing SKP, Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive, London New Bond Street, Milan Monte Napoleone, Paris Montaigne, Seoul Cheongdam, Shanghai Plaza 66, Singapore Marina Bay Sands, Tokyo Aoyama, and New York Wooster.
