Japanese designer Junya Watanabe, known for his talent in deconstructing design, has officially launched a new collaboration with Dr. Martens this season. This collection includes the 1490 10 Holes leather boots and two deconstructed leather jackets inspired by the boots, which made their debut at Junya Watanabe’s Spring/Summer 2025 fashion show earlier this year.

Junya Watanabe has always had a penchant for leather pieces, with leather jackets finding their way into nearly every collection, each time presented in a remarkably innovative way. This season, in collaboration with Dr. Martens, the designer has taken apart two classic 1490 10 Holes leather boots and creatively stitched them into the sleeves of a biker jacket. The soles face upward on either shoulder, while the openings of the boots serve as the outlets of the sleeves, creating a silhouette that broadens the shoulders in a way that defies convention yet feels entirely rational. Those who have experienced it know that Junya Watanabe’s runway leather jackets are usually extremely stiff, heavy, and exaggerated—this piece is no exception. But fashion has never been about comfort; one can’t help but admire Junya Watanabe’s unique deconstructive aesthetic.

Aside from the biker jacket, the collaboration with Dr. Martens on the 1490 10 Holes boots this season is equally impressive. The classic 1490 10 Holes gets an upgrade with two stylish studs, instantly bringing a punk vibe. The tongue features the name Junya Watanabe, adding to its edgy aesthetic. The studs are perfectly placed, and since the 1490 style is already versatile, these boots not only boast style but also practicality.
