The Spring/Summer edition of London Fashion Week 2026 has officially kicked off, marking a pivotal beginning for the British fashion scene. Under the dynamic leadership of the new CEO Laura Weir, the British Fashion Council (BFC) boldly announces the launch of New Era, with plans gradually being put into action. Among these, the BFC NEWGEN plan for the 2025/26 season stands out as a significant step toward refocusing on emerging designers.
This year's NEWGEN lineup prominently features Oscar Ouyang, a Beijing-born designer now based in London—he just wrapped up his debut official runway show at Fashion Week.
Ouyang's SS26 collection continues his narrative style developed over seven years at Central Saint Martins, cleverly merging folk elements, street culture, and exquisite craftsmanship. It showcases a cast that is both imaginative and functional for everyday wear.
The opening look features a military-inspired jacket paired with shiny shorts and a tassel scarf in a matching color. Following this, a series of designs with rich layering emerges—like wearing three-quarter knitted leggings under fluffy feather shorts, complemented by a soft gray T-shirt and beanie. Alternatively, a short-sleeve knitted top adorned with tassels perfectly aligns with functional trousers and sneakers, creating an effortlessly chic ensemble.
The entire collection features a diverse range of knit designs, from classic sleeveless vests and capes to loose-fitting oversized knit T-shirts and sculptural long hand-crocheted tops. Each style intersects, creating a rich visual effect.
This season’s standout feature is undoubtedly feathers—woven into the model’s hair, accentuating sneaker laces, and even stitched into headpieces. As the designer noted in their post-show remarks, this lightweight element aims to evoke a sense of mystery associated with King of the Forest.
Despite the surreal atmosphere of the collection, it grounds itself in earthy tones and street-smart silhouettes, accentuated by functional fabrics: khaki jackets, army green, and navy blue chinos stand out as must-haves. Paired with Converse sneakers, each look strikes a perfect balance between storytelling and practicality, showcasing Ouyang's talent for transforming narrative and craftsmanship into everyday style.
