Mugler has announced that Miguel Castro Freitas will take on the role of Creative Director, succeeding Casey Cadwallader, who has led the brand for seven years. He is set to assume the position on April 1, a move that the market has long anticipated.
Miguel Castro Freitas previously held key design roles at Sportmax, Dries Van Noten, and Christian Dior Couture, and his background aligns seamlessly with the creative spirit of the brand’s founder, Manfred Thierry Mugler. Freitas expressed that joining Mugler is an honor for him, as this influential haute couture label has redefined the power and boundaries of fashion. He looks forward to working alongside the team to infuse his own vision and passion, continuing the legacy of this iconic brand.
Freitas graduated in 2004 from the womenswear program at Central Saint Martins. She has an impressive design background, having worked with Julie Verhoeven, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Lanvin.
During Casey Cadwallader’s seven-year tenure, he became renowned for his bold designs and high-energy runway shows, collaborating with celebrities such as Megan Thee Stallion, Kim Kardashian, and Lady Gaga. Cadwallader successfully brought modern drama back to Mugler while honoring the brand’s iconic elements in today’s fashion scene. Recently, Mugler confirmed that Casey Cadwallader will step down at the end of March, with his future endeavors yet to be revealed.
Adrian Corsin, Mugler’s Fashion General Manager, praised Cadwallader’s contributions, commending him for reigniting Mugler’s vitality and capturing the energy of the contemporary era, thus continuing the brand’s illustrious legacy. Meanwhile, Cadwallader expressed gratitude for the support of his team and collaborators, sharing his excitement to explore the new meaning of Mugler in today’s culture.
Adrian Corsin praised the newly appointed Creative Director, Miguel Castro Freitas, for his exceptional tailoring skills, elegant designs, and unique vision, as well as his deep passion for Mugler’s haute couture traditions. His addition to the team is set to be a vital source of inspiration, driving the brand forward into the future. Notably, Freitas will debut his 2026 Spring/Summer collection for Mugler at this year’s Paris Fashion Week in the fall, generating widespread anticipation within the industry.
