LOEWE is gearing up to make waves in Tokyo with an expansive exhibition titled "Crafted World." About to kick-start soon, this showcase delves into the rich tapestry of the brand’s history and the Spanish cultural traditions, not to mention celebrating the spirit of handcrafted artistry.
"Crafted World," an awe-inspiring retrospective exhibition that traces the remarkable 179-year journey of LOEWE through the evolution of creativity and craftsmanship, firmly cements the brand's stellar contributions to fashion and artisan culture. Slated to kick off in Shanghai in 2024, the exhibit will make its stylish trek to Tokyo's hip Harajuku district by March 2025. Since 1973, LOEWE has ingrained itself deeply within Japanese culture, notably being the first to set up shop in Europe's backyard.
The latest exhibition concept, a brainchild of LOEWE and the trailblazing architectural firm OMA, is taking the fashion and art world by storm. OMA, renowned for being among the most inventive in architectural design in the 21st century, partnered with LOEWE to serve up a feast for the senses. Visitors get an immersive dive into the evolution of LOEWE, as it journeyed from a humble leather cooperative in Madrid, founded in 1846, to its status today as a global titan of haute couture. The exhibition is a mesmerizing blend of art and culture, painting a vibrant tableau filled with rich Spanish hues and exquisite craftsmanship. It’s like stepping into an extraordinary fashion runway, where every detail echoes the narrative of meticulous artistry. What’s more exciting? The exhibit also offers a sneak peek into the inspirations behind LOEWE's latest collections. Expect to be wowed by some stellar collaborations that are nothing short of inspiring, including projects with Studio Ghibli and Kyoto’s ceramic maven, Suna Fujita. Here's your exclusive backstage pass to how traditional craftsmanship meets high fashion in a colorful celebration of heritage and innovation. Make no mistake, it's a cultural rendezvous that fashion aficionados wouldn't want to miss!
“Crafted World,” a dazzling showcase unrolled in Tokyo, not only spotlights specially curated creations and architectural concepts by LOEWE, but it also serves as a cultural exchange mash-up, showing off the brand's initiatives in Japan and beyond. The exhibit includes a film produced by the LOEWE Foundation, which demonstrates how the Ōnishi family of Kyoto, with nearly four centuries under their belt, skillfully crafts iron teapots. The spotlight also shines on works by LOEWE Craft Prize nominees Tanabe Chikuunsai IV and Moe Watanabe, along with creations by 2019’s champ, Genta Ishizuka. But that’s not all—artworks by ARKO, Hafu Matsumoto, and Jirō Yonezawa, all of whom have made waves at the Milan International Furniture Fair, are also proudly displayed, offering a feast for the eyes and a deep dive into the transcendental world of fine craftsmanship.
The "Crafted World" exhibition at Tokyo Station is slated to run from March 29 to May 11, 2025, with doors open daily from 9 AM to 8 PM. The best part? It's free entry! Don't forget to book your spot in advance. Get ready to dive into a realm of exquisite craftsmanship!
