Adidas breaks the mold once again with the launch of its new Climacool sneakers, crafted entirely using additive manufacturing technology and featuring a fully 3D-printed design. Previously exclusive to Confirmed platform members, this revolutionary footwear is now available in the global market, allowing more sports enthusiasts to experience the groundbreaking comfort of 3D printing. First unveiled last year, the Climacool immediately turned heads with its foot-hugging design and exceptional breathability. The signature lattice structure, meticulously designed layer by layer, ensures optimal airflow to keep feet cool and dry during runs or everyday wear. According to Adidas, the Climacool sneakers are constructed through an advanced layer-by-layer stacking process, creating a seamless upper that not only delivers a lightweight feel but also enhances arch support and heel cushioning for unmatched overall comfort.
Notably, Adidas began exploring 3D printing applications more than a decade ago. In 2017, the brand launched the Futurecraft 4D, which at the time utilized 3D printing technology exclusively for midsole design, with a limited run of 5000 pairs. This time, the fully 3D-printed design of the Climacool signifies a major leap forward for Adidas in the realm of 3D technology. Although the brand has not disclosed specific production details, it is understood that Climacool leverages high-precision printing technology to directly create a complex shoe upper structure without the need for additional stitching, reducing material waste and opening up new possibilities for future customization. However, for now, this model does not support personalized customization.
Currently available on the Confirmed platform and select stores in New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, the release details for other regions are yet to be announced. Priced at $140 (approximately HK$1,092), the shoe offers remarkable value for a fully 3D-printed model. The designer highlights that thanks to its lattice structure, the shoe not only maintains an ultra-lightweight feel but also provides solid support and cushioning, making it particularly suitable for prolonged wear. Notably, Adidas previously incorporated similar technology in the 4DFWD series running shoes, enhancing propulsion during runs with its 3D-printed midsole structure. The debut of this Climacool further cements Adidas' leading position in the tech-driven performance footwear industry.
