Following the global promotional campaign launched at the beginning of the year The Original, adidas Originals has recently introduced a new chapter SUPERSTAR: The Original. This initiative centers around a classic sneaker that bridges the worlds of sports and street culture, reflecting on the legendary journey of the Superstar while inspiring a wave of creative ideas for the new generation.
Originally born on the basketball court, the Superstar sneaker has evolved with the growth of street culture, gaining new meanings across different generations and becoming a symbol of cultural crossover. The project, directed by renowned photographer and director Thibaut Grevet, pays homage to the classic colorways and minimalist aesthetic of the Superstar through striking black-and-white imagery. A diverse array of iconic figures from various generations participated in the shoot, including Blackpink member Jennie, skateboarding legend Mark Gonzales, NBA rising star Anthony Edwards, singer and producer Missy Elliott, and American singer-songwriter Teezo Touchdown, all showcasing the unique charm of Original Icon.
The entire project is divided into two chapters. The first chapter, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, symbolizes the pyramids of humanity’s great architecture, subtly implying the lasting cultural impact of Superstars. The second chapter invites viewers to witness the gathering of seven cultural creators, delivering a powerful message.
This project showcases a variety of classic pieces, including the iconic Superstar II and the Firebird tracksuit. The Superstar II features a thicker tongue and upper design, perfectly capturing the style of the late ’90s. Since its debut in 1967, the Firebird tracksuit has held a significant place in the realms of fashion and music, being reinterpreted by various creators. You can check out the SUPERSTAR: The Original project video on the brand’s Instagram, where you might find some inspiration for your own creative looks and styling.
