When it comes to the visibility of Brazilian fashion on the global stage, a new collaboration from the British footwear brand Clarks Originals is set to be a significant milestone. This brand has announced its first Latin American partnership with the streetwear label Carnan, hailing from Rio de Janeiro.
This collaboration aims to create a vibrant cultural dialogue that skillfully merges Clarks' rich brand history with the contemporary spirit and unique cultural characteristics of Brazil. The goal is to transform tradition into dynamism, turning design into powerful narratives while highlighting Brazil's key role as a creative force in the international fashion ecosystem.
This cultural fusion is specifically reflected in the reimagining of two classic shoe models from Clarks: the Wallabee and the Desert Trek. Both are crafted from premium suede, paired with a natural rubber crepe sole, and feature hand-stitched leather patches that outline the map of Brazil on the upper, showcasing a unique detail.
Paulo Carneiro, co-founder and creative director of Carnan, highlights the intricate weaving of Region and Products. He believes that directly stitching the map of Brazil onto shoes not only showcases the fusion of memory, territory, and design but also transforms these global classics into Symbols of Identity and Belonging, bridging the gap between global traditions and local creativity.
The promotional campaign for this collaboration revolves around the heartbeat of music, reflecting the significant position of Clarks' classic styles within global music culture, encompassing hip-hop, reggae, and Britpop.
Breno Fernandes, the brand and marketing director of Carnan, stated that just as Wallabee has been intertwined with the culture of American hip-hop, Jamaican reggae, and British Britpop, Clarks x Carnan aims to infuse the spirit of Brazilian music—from samba to Carioca hip-hop—into every detail.
The shoes are now available for purchase in limited quantities on the Carnan official website, with prices starting at R$ 2,399 (approximately US$ 440).
