Japanese brand Kurono Tokyo has recently unveiled a brand new wristwatch, named 37mmInseki (Meteorite). This timepiece combines the unique design interpretation of founder Hajime Asaoka, showcasing the Muonionalusta meteorite, symbolizing the arrival of the new year.
The watch is crafted from Muonionalusta iron-nickel meteorite, dating back approximately 4.5 billion years, with its fall to Earth occurring about 1 million years ago. The dial showcases Kurono's signature aesthetic of cylindrical proportions, with Asaoka opting for a bull’s-eye concentric layout: a central disc made of naturally patterned gray meteorite, surrounded by a bright white lacquered outer ring that creates a sense of depth through its curved edges. The hour markers are styled in Breguet numerals, printed with the unique Calligra font designed by Asaoka himself, each meteorite dial featuring its own distinctive texture.
The watch features a Kurono custom 37mm high-polish 316L stainless steel case, with a thickness of approximately 7mm. When considering the high-domed sapphire crystal, the overall thickness reaches about 11.5mm, creating a slim and elegant profile. It is powered by the automatic Miyota 90S5 movement, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and has a power reserve of around 40 hours. The hands are hand-curved, complementing the monochromatic dial beautifully. The watch is water-resistant up to 3 ATM and comes with a luxurious calfskin strap.
Like all items in the Special Projects collection, the 37mmInseki will be released in a limited edition format and will not be restocked, with a retail price of $1,850 (excluding VAT and duties). The launch is set for January 15, 2026, at 11 PM Japan time on the Kurono website, with global shipping expected to begin in late February 2026. Customers must register for a free account on the Kurono Tokyo website in advance to make a purchase, with a limit of one piece per customer.
The brand salons in Tokyo and Shanghai are currently open for physical previews, running until January 15.
