Louis Vuitton has recently infused a touch of vintage charm into its Objects of Time collection, reimagining the 20th-century brand’s iconic Camionnette delivery truck as a stunning table clock that beautifully blends functionality with artistry. This mini masterpiece stands at 18 centimeters high and 35.3 centimeters long, weighing in at 7 kilograms, and features the specially designed MV.7417/101 movement by the Swiss watchmaker L’Epée 1839, crafted exclusively for Louis Vuitton. It serves as a poetic tribute to the brand’s heritage of travel, time, and craftsmanship.

The inspiration behind Camionnette comes from the brand’s delivery vans that once roamed the streets of Paris, responsible for transporting custom leather luggage to hotels and private residences. This vehicle was not just a part of the brand’s logistics network; it represented a mobile advertisement for the early expansion of the Maison and embodied the spirit of travel. This time, Louis Vuitton is not merely indulging in nostalgia; rather, it is reinterpreting its cultural significance through watchmaking and craftsmanship.

The overall design is led by Matthieu Hegi, the artistic director of La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. He emphasizes that the piece aims to preserve the silhouette and emotion of the original vehicle while blending symbols of travel with childhood fantasies to evoke memories of the journey’s beginnings. The body is crafted from aluminum, adorned with Louis Vuitton’s iconic shades of deep red and blue. Details such as the Monogram flower embellishments on the hood, the flame blue LV logo on the silver radiator, the wheels edged with Monogram patterns, and the license plate engraved with LV1854 showcase the brand’s signature language.

The most captivating feature lies in the hidden MV.7417/101 manual winding mechanical movement. This Swiss-made movement comprises 218 parts, offering an impressive eight-day power reserve, a frequency of 18,000 vibrations per hour, and 21 jewel bearings. The balance wheel mechanism is cleverly positioned within the driver’s cabin, allowing a glimpse of its operation through a transparent glass window and the dome on the roof. Time is displayed in a uniquely thoughtful manner, with two rotating drums indicating hours and minutes, elegantly located at the vehicle’s hood, perfectly mirroring the engine compartment of vintage delivery trucks.

At the back of the vehicle, a mini Monogram luggage piece is cleverly concealed, revealing a uniquely designed key once opened. This design echoes the traditional metal corner details found on Louis Vuitton suitcases, serving the purpose of winding and setting the time, evoking nostalgic imaginations of the bygone era of manual mechanical activation.

In addition to the standard version, Louis Vuitton has launched an incredibly rare limited edition embellished with diamonds—only 15 units were produced. The body is crafted from gold-plated metal, featuring a 0.51-carat LV Monogram Star Cut diamond set in the center of the hood. The front grille is adorned with 1,695 round diamonds using a snowflake technique, totaling 41.44 carats. The wheels are also encrusted with diamonds, while the headlights house circular brilliant cut diamonds, and the taillights showcase 10 orange and 10 red rectangular cut sapphires, with a total weight of 1.64 carats.

The Damier pattern on the side of the vehicle is meticulously crafted with hand guilloché engraving, taking a staggering 15 hours to complete for each piece. Embedded within the intricate checkered design are gemstones, showcasing an exceptional level of skill that symbolizes the fusion of the brand’s watchmaking and luggage craftsmanship. The limited edition Camionnette also comes with a dedicated Monogram canvas trophy case designed to resonate with the theme reflected in Container and Content.

The Camionnette is more than just a piece of artistic clockwork; it’s Louis Vuitton’s reinterpretation of the art of travel and the history of the brand. It tells the story of how the brand has transformed practical tools of the past into contemporary iconic objects, all while carrying forward its spirit of craftsmanship and imaginative exploration. The Objects of Time collection reaffirms how the brand combines mechanical heart and emotional memory to create resonant pieces of artistic timepieces.
