Following the publication of Submariner, Rolex has once again teamed up with Wallpaper* to unveil a book dedicated to another classic product: Oyster Perpetual Datejust – A Watch that Made History. This 224-page work marks the first officially authorized history of the Datejust, focusing on the origins of the iconic date window positioned at 3 o'clock.
Veteran watch historian Nicholas Foulkes paints a vivid picture as he details the birth of the Datejust in 1945, which marked Rolex's first waterproof and self-winding chronometer watch. He meticulously outlines each major milestone, from the mention by Hans Wilsdorf of All the crystals discovered to date., to the addition of the Cyclops lens in 1953, which brought a perfect element to the design. Furthermore, the book includes firsthand accounts from several Rolex Testimonees, featuring top athletes and cultural icons, adding depth to the narrative.
The book being released features a premium hardcover design and will soon be available in English and French versions. During the pre-order period, it will be exclusively sold in the Wallpaper* online store, priced at £100 (approximately $136). Starting from October, selected Rolex retailers and independent bookstores worldwide will also begin to stock this work.
