Arnold & Son has unveiled the new HM Steel Amber watch, featuring a dial crafted from exceedingly rare Baltic amber, creating a dialogue that spans millions of years. The brand has previously incorporated unique materials such as meteorite, hematite, and charoite, and now it boldly challenges horological craftsmanship once again by using amber, which is over 30 million years old, as the centerpiece, opening a new chapter for the HM collection.
The Baltic amber originates from ancient coniferous tree resin, which transforms into a unique shade of amber yellow-brown and fine textures after a long fossilization process. However, finding suitable amber for watchmaking is exceptionally challenging. Arnold & Son took several months to finally select a 1.6-kilogram raw piece of amber, meticulously cut and chosen to ensure each watch dial meets aesthetic and structural standards. The outer layer of the amber presents a deep red color due to oxidation, while the interior radiates a warm pale yellow, perfectly complementing the ‘Imperial Green’ crocodile leather strap, showcasing a refined luxury vibe.
The dial design embraces minimalism, featuring only the hour and minute hands to highlight the natural beauty of amber. The 39.5mm stainless steel case has a thickness of just 7.82mm, making it elegantly slim. Inside, it houses the A&S1001 manual winding movement, measuring only 2.7mm in thickness, with a frequency of 3Hz (21,600 vph) that offers a power reserve of 90 hours. Through the sapphire crystal case back, you can admire the radiant Geneva wave decorations on the movement, along with the polished chamfered bridges and circular-grained main plate, showcasing the brand’s ultimate watchmaking craftsmanship.
The HM Steel Amber is a global limited edition of just 38 pieces, each one unique due to the natural patterns of amber. This timepiece is not only a work of horological art, but also carries the story of time.
