Four years ago, the first time I saw Wei Junsheng (Jeffrey Ngai), what stuck with me more than his appearance was his comment about not having eaten since the previous afternoon, relying solely on black coffee to get through the interview. This time we meet again, and he laughs as he shares that he’s cut back on that habit. The days of grinding for half an hour every day are behind him. When it comes to both work and life, it seems he has figured out the perfect balance: take a step back, and things will naturally become clearer.

The Ultimate Black Coffee
Looking back, Jeffrey recalls that during his peak days, it was normal to down six to eight cups of black coffee each day. What started as a purposeful intake eventually turned into a love affair with that bitter yet rich aroma, which is no surprise that fans collectively refer to it as coffee beans. Without understanding the path to balance, he could only experiment, often leading to extreme measures. It wasn’t until two or three years later, when discomfort in his stomach set in, that he began reflecting on this work companion: As I sip away, sometimes it feels entirely pointless—mindlessly drinking during the hustle of work, just a cup of bland hot beverage.. To tackle the issue for good, he established a new routine, waking up two and a half hours earlier to have breakfast before heading out for a run, aiming for a state of mind unbound by specific time constraints.
Coffee has long been ingrained in his blood. If Jeffrey weren’t in the spotlight now, he would likely be running a café. The decor would channel a retro vibe, with a corner showcasing his favorite fashion pieces—perhaps not for sale, but definitely creating a space where customers can unwind and relish a leisurely vibe.

People always have demands.
Behind coffee lies a desire to reduce swelling; when feeling good, you achieve the most basic level of professionalism. In the past, I lived quite casually, often not getting up until the last minute. Now, changes start with the little details of life: waking up, eating, exercising, and grooming all follow a sequence. Gradually, this extends to a clearer mindset and sharper focus: Humans are inherently lazy creatures, and therefore must be treated with strictness. If we don’t set high standards for ourselves, we can easily fall into a state of apathy, which ultimately becomes a choice we make..

Debuting at twenty-two, five years have flown by in no time, and the name he continues to admire most is The RockDwayne Johnson. Recently, The Rock filmed Crusher, shedding dozens of pounds for the role. Earlier this year, Jeffrey bulked up and then slimmed down for the movie Red Bean, giving him a taste of his idol’s weight loss journey. He realized that the process can take a toll on the body, but he also witnessed the professionalism of actors who push their bodies to the limit, which deepened his admiration. I believe that everyone should have certain standards. If we approach everything without care or merely settle for just okay, then things will only turn out okay. Some people may not excel academically, but that’s fine—one day they might listen to music and discover they have Perfect Pitch. This is when you start to explore and realize that there’s always hope in life. is a Hong Kong-Japan film and marks Jeffrey’s first lead role. What are the assassin number 4’s gifts and talents? We’ll find out in December.

Doing your best is achieving perfection.
During his time at the gym, he chooses to let his muscles work while clearing his mind, sorting through the thoughts that have been bothering him. He reflects on those little moments at work that have upset him, unpacking his feelings and questioning himself a few times about why he feels that way, which helps him let go of some of his attachments and worries. After this self-communication, he finds a new voice within him; the answers that this voice provides are just as significant as others’ advice. But you still need to relax, because we’re human. If you don’t know how to unwind, it can get pretty tough, and that kind of strain might be more than you can handle. You’ll find yourself pushing to the limit, and when you reach that breaking point, things can get confusing. After getting lost in thought, he suddenly offers down-to-earth and refreshing suggestions: When it’s time to relax, truly relax—don’t let worries about tomorrow creep in!.

Perhaps due to his youth, he often finds himself facing questions related to growth and learning. This year, he not only tackled a project named Reduce Attachment, but this interview even allowed him to outline the entire process—from the source and the progression to the resolution—everything is fully conscious and present. When you’ve given it your all, there’s no need for expectations, because expectations can be misleading. The outcome is not necessarily related to the effort; rather, effort just increases the chances of success. What happens next depends on what fate decides to give you. believes that rather than striving for perfection, simply doing your best is enough, at least to stay true to yourself. This conclusion is largely drawn from someone with high standards, who has gained insights through experiencing multiple falls from expectation to disappointment. After taking a deep breath, he flashed his signature smile and began to sketch out a small square: Or maybe we save it for next time? Life is long, and in the moment, things can feel super intense. But after a while, this will just fade into the background, so how important can it really be? There’s no need to focus too much on it..
