According to foreign media reports, the renowned domain name AI.com is currently on the lookout for buyers, with a staggering asking price of $100 million (approximately HKD 7.8 billion). The identity of the current owner remains anonymous, and the domain is set to remain valid until May 5, 2031, registered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Larry Fischer, the seasoned broker behind this sale, has extensive experience in reselling high-value domain names. He previously assisted in the resale of Messenger.com to Meta (then known as Facebook) and Teams.com to Microsoft, while the Chat.com domain ultimately went to OpenAI. Fischer noted that potential buyers for AI.com include tech giants such as OpenAI, Microsoft, Google, and Meta.
The golden domain AI.com has served multiple times as a traffic redirect platform for various AI services. Most recently, it pointed to the emerging AI company DeepSeek. It has also previously linked to ChatGPT, and even Elon Musk’s xAI and Google’s Gemini services briefly utilized the domain for traffic generation.
If AI.com successfully sells at the asking price, its value will far exceed the $30 million that MicroStrategy paid for the domain Voice.com in 2019, setting a new record in domain name transactions.
With the explosive growth of the AI industry, having an intuitive domain like AI.com is bound to become a strategic resource that major tech companies compete for. Although the $100 million asking price may seem steep, for these trillion-dollar tech giants, it might just be a worthy long-term investment.
