Ambient Bluetooth speaker designs are multiplying, but few models are made to be left out on a table as part of your decor rather than tucked away in a closet.
Kooduu, a Dutch home-lifestyle brand, is taking a different approach with its newest entries.
On the surface the new models look like Bluetooth speakers, but in practice they act like a combination of lamp, speaker, and mood piece for the home: Kooduu says the goal is to change a rooms atmosphere when you play music, not simply to play songs.
Design that reads like a lamp, not a gadget
The most striking thing about the Sensa Play series is the design.
Both models adopt a soft, mushroom-shaped silhouette common to recent Nordic products, with no exposed buttons, no RGB strip lighting, and no gaming styling. Placed on a living room table, bedroom nightstand, or dining surface, they look more like home objects than consumer electronics.
The larger model uses a metal body with a powder coat finish for a premium feel. The smaller model uses recycled plastic and fabric and weighs 0.5 kg, making it easier to carry.
Rather than bright color-changing effects, both models favor a warm 2900K light, which reads more like a high-end ambience lamp than a typical gadget mood light.
Sound by JBL, not just a name on the box
Many design-forward products end up being style over substance. Kooduu said the new models are part of a SOUND BY JBL global license partnership, with JBL providing audio technology support.
Listening to the Sensa Play main model, the 10W full-range driver leans toward a warm, easy-to-listen profile. Vocals feel well forward, bass is not overpowering but has enough weight, and the 360 degree sound field means you do not have to point the speaker at a specific spot to get even coverage.
Placed in the center of a dining table and used for jazz, lo-fi, or acoustic playlists, the speaker creates a pleasing sense of space.
The Sensa Play Mini uses an 8W driver but sounded surprisingly clean and transparent in testing. Because it is compact, it can feel intimate and comforting when used close at hand.
These are not party speakers meant to blast a crowd. They are aimed at private spaces and evening relaxation.
Warm light and simple controls make the lighting useful
Some people dismiss “speaker plus lamp” as a gimmick, but warm light paired with music does amplify the immersive quality of a listening moment and helps people relax.
The series includes a physical sliding dimmer, so you do not need an app or a menu to change brightness. That push-to-adjust approach can be more valuable than many smart features.
At night on a bedside table for reading, during a Netflix evening, or on a balcony for a quiet drink, the pieces blend into the environment instead of becoming visual centerpieces.
Two different products for two different rhythms of life
Kooduu did not simply make the Sensa Play Mini a smaller version of the main speaker. The two models serve distinct usage patterns.
The larger Sensa Play is intended as a fixed item in a room. Its metal body, larger light coverage, and 10W output make it easy to become the atmospheric core of a living room, dining area, bedroom, or balcony.
The Sensa Play Mini focuses on mobility. With a smaller footprint and a weight of 0.5 kg, it is better suited to moving between rooms, outdoor gatherings, or travel.
In other words, these are not strictly higher and lower tier models, but rather two answers: one for room atmosphere and one for personal companionship.
Both share JBL-tuned sound, warm lamp light, and Nordic design, but they match different daily rhythms.
A Nordic aesthetic for mood-focused living
Kooduu, founded in the Netherlands, describes its purpose as bringing music, light, and everyday atmosphere together under a Scandinavian lifestyle approach: “Set the Mood. Wherever. Whenever.”
The Sensa Play series lists design input from Danish designer Eskild Hansens team, and the result projects a restrained, crafted sensibility rather than loud styling.
That appeal is likely strongest for buyers who prioritize room atmosphere and aesthetic quality over pure specification competition.
To many users, the Sensa Play series will feel more like a lifestyle piece than a typical consumer electronic device; it signals a particular attention to daily quality of life.
